18CrNiMo7-6 is a case-hardening steel with high strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance. It’s used to make parts for the automotive, aerospace, and energy industries.

Composition

Low alloy steel with high chromium content
Nickel and molybdenum improve toughness and corrosion resistance
Carbon content is typically between 0.15–0.21%
Silicon content is typically less than 0.4%
Chromium content is typically between 1.5–1.8%

Properties Good machinability, High strength and toughness, High fatigue strength and surface wear resistance, and Improved hardenability and heat treatability.

Variants

There are several variants of 18CrNiMo7-6 with different sulfur contents and cleanliness levels
The 159A variant has a low sulfur content and high cleanliness demands
The 159B variant has a controlled sulfur content for consistent machinability
The 159Q variant has isotropic properties and better fatigue strength
